New Designer Hits Footcandy: Derek Lam

Derek Lam is an American high fashion designer. At a young age Derek Lam found that he had a passion for fashion. With his grandparent’s successful running a garment factor that specialized in bridal and wedding dresses, Lam would spend hours upon end sitting with the seamstresses adorning the wedding gowns. Lam knew at a very early age that he wanted to dedicate his career to fashion so upon his high school graduation, he enrolled in Parsons School of Design. At this institution Lam developed skills and techniques that eventually landed him a position as the assistant for Michael Kors in the 1990s. Lam became so successful at Michael Kors that he was as a result appointed to Vice President of Design. While Derek Lam loved working for Michael Kors he knew that he ultimately wanted to create his own personal label, so in 2003 he debuted his fashion line at New York Fashion Week. One monumental achievement for Lam came in 2005 when he won the CFDA Perry Ellis Swarovski Award for new designers. This award is highly respected among elite high fashions designers and gave him instant international recognition. Over the last decade Lam’s passion and dedication to fashion remains and is seen in every collection season after season. Derek Lam is known around the world for his ready-to-wear pieces and his high quality materials. If you’re a woman that loves clean, crisps lines and fashions forward styles then Derek Lam is the designer for you! Check out some of the fabulous new Derek Lam arrivals that just hit Footcandy!!
